Candidate genes for milk production traits

Aim:

This research project is mainly focused on the identification of genetic variability of candidate genes influencing milk yield and composition in German Holstein Friesian and in different Sudanese dairy cattle breeds and in the prove of association between gene variants and milk production traits.


Hypothesis:

Candidate gene variants are associated with milk production traits in most if not every HF populations and likely also in populations of other breeds.


Material and Methods:

Genotype and association analyses are performed in a population of about 2000 German Holstein Friesian (GHF) dairy cattle.


Expected results:

Verification of gene variants associated with milk production traits, which potentially can be used for selection strategies.
