Mechanisms of photosynthetic acclimatisation
How plants optimise their photosynthetic nitrogen partitioning in the stand has not yet been satisfactorily elucidated, although experimental and theoretical attempts have been made over the last three decades. We investigate the very heterogeneous light distribution and fluctuation within the stand together with temperature effects on ontogenetic status to explain which strategies and mechanisms of photosynthetic acclimation of leaves lead to the optimisation of nitrogen use of the whole plant.
