This research project examines the effects of devolving forest management on local livelihoods and forest conditions. It proceeds through a case study of Dak Lak Province, Vietnam. The research focuses on institutional changes, in particular property rights on forest and land and the rules regulating the use, management and protection of forest resources and land. It examines changes in these institutions at the household and village levels. The project is conceived in close association with two doctoral dissertations at the Faculty of Agriculture and Horticulture funded by the German Agency for Technical Cooperation.
