Gerlinde Kurzbach - Author and former Chief Training Officer at MONUC/MONUSCO - United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo spoke on 'Training in UN-Peacekeeping missions a capacity building for a future civic society. Experiences from Africa'.

Hans Dieter Temp, Sao Paulo, Brazil, founder of NGO Cidade sem Fome, spoke about Urban agriculture and social inclusion: Why and how the NGO CITIES WITHOUT HUNGER creates income generating community gardens. The lecture will continue on June 16th.

Die NGO STÄDTE OHNE HUNGER baut in der Stadt São Paulo und der ländlichen Umgebung nachhaltige Agrarprojekte auf Basis der ökologischen Landwirtschaft auf. Ziel ist es, Menschen in prekären Lebenssituationen in die Lage zu versetzen, durch die Projektteilnahme ein eigenes Einkommen zu erwirtschaften und die Ernährungssituation von Erwachsenen und Kindern zu verbessern. Hans Dieter Temp, der Gründer der Organisation, berichtet von seiner Motivation und der Arbeit in den Projektgärten.

Ms Jasmin Sepahzad delivered a presentation on "Urban community gardening as a potential tool for change? Experiences from São Paulo, Brazil".
During the research for her bachelor thesis ("The Impact of Urban Community Gardening on Pro-Environmental Behaviour") Jasmin Sepahzad gathered, as one of the first exchange-students from Albrecht-Thaer-Institute in São Paulo, quantitative and qualitative data in the growing Urban Gardening scene of the Brazilian metropole.

Prof. Dr. Osvaldo Romero who comes to us from the Universidad de Sancti Spiritus José Martí Pérez, Kuba, and is currently a visiting professor at the Berlin Technical University spoke about "The concept of sustainability, critical analysis and an example of contribution from the university".

we welcomed Ms. Ren Xin, Vice director of the Exhibition Department, International Cooperation Department, People's Republic of China, member of a delegation of representatives of local and provincial governments, marketing organisations, businesses of ecological agriculture and the Chinese Ministry of Agriculture.

Mrs. Nasreen Akhter, Additional Sekretary, Local Government Division, Ministry of Local Government, Bangladesh. Mrs. Akhter presented on "Collaboration between the Government and local authorities for a sustainable development".

Professors Hanna Illola, Pekka Kalli and Pirjo Jaakkola of Tampere University of Applied Sciences, Finland were visiting our unit. We learned about teacher's training in Finalnd and discussed systems of vocational teacher's training in Finland and Germany.

Our group welcomed Prof. Dr. Shelley Feldmann, Department of Development Sociology at Cornell University, Ithaka, NY, and Director of the Polson Institute for Global Development for the inaugural presentation of our new seminar series.
