Research Interests


  • Oscar’s main interest lies in the fields of Institutional Economics and Institutional Sociology; Sustainable governance of Water and Land Resources; Social change; Co-evolution of Social-Ecological Systems. His methods comprise qualitative and participatory research and case study approaches.
  • Oscar has worked on a variety of cases of natural resource governance including Indonesia, East-Timor, Albania and the European Union. His current regional and thematic focus is on the evolution of institutions of access to land and water resources in the context of emerging large-scale public irrigation schemes in South-Eastern Turkey.

Erhard-Höpfner Studies Award 2009 for the Masterthesis "Challenges to collective action in a transitional Commons. An institutional analysis of local fishery management at Lake Ohrid, Albania ", by the Erhard-Höpfner Foundation in cooperation with the Berlin Scientific Society – Berliner Wissenschaftliche Gesellschaft (BWG). 2010.
