Basics of Agricultural Marketing
Fundamentals, concepts and decision fields of agricultural marketing; theoretical approaches and methods of decision support.
The course deals with different theoretical approaches as well as methods of decision support. Furthermore, different distribution systems in agriculture and horticulture as well as their actors, institutions and processes are dealt with. For this purpose, the behavior and processes of consumers, companies and competitors are considered as a basis for market research. The participants learn about different decision areas in marketing (product, price, communication and distribution policy) and gain insights into current approaches to supply chain management in agriculture and horticulture.

Farm Management in the Agricultural and Horticultural Sector
Basic concepts and theoretical approaches to agricultural management; application and evaluation of decision support models; strategic management, organizational theory, cross-organizational coordination.
This course covers various concepts and theoretical approaches to agricultural management. Fundamentals of management and marketing, various approaches to organizational and firm theory, and current developments in global agricultural value chains will be considered. In particular, current sustainability approaches, certification systems, and the agricultural industry's own approaches (CSR) to agricultural management will be analysed.

Development and Agrifood Value Chains
Linkages and interdependencies between agricultural development processes and nutrition in LMICSs; analytical methods in critical agricultural studies, agricultural political economy, anthropology, and (economic) geography.
This course analyzes connections and interlinkages between global, regional and local development processes in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) with a particular focus on agriculture and food. The course focuses on key analytical approaches, i.e. livelihoods and (global) value chains. The two approaches, their methodological tools as well as empirical case studies will be investigated from a critical, multi-disciplinary perspective, drawing from critical agrarian studies, agrarian political economy, anthropology and (economic) geography.

Environmental Management and Information Systems
Introduction and basic concepts of quality management and environmental management systems; data basis of environmental information systems; options of politics, authorities and companies; environmental marketing and risk communication.
Participants will learn about important factors in the introduction of quality management and environmental management systems and will be able to analyse basic concepts and theoretical foundations of QM and EM, be familiar with the principles and problems of evaluation. The course goes on to cover various options for government or corporate policy action. Participants discuss and evaluate different approaches to sustainable value chains and environmental management.

Basic approaches to strategic management (situation analysis, sector-specific approaches); methods of data collection and data analysis in market research; advanced concepts and theories of marketing in the agricultural sector.
The participants will learn advanced concepts and theories of agrifood marketing in the course. Specific problems are analyzed using basic market research methods. In addition, strategic marketing methods (situational analysis and sector-specific approaches) are used to analyze current issues and problems. Methods of data collection and data analysis of market research will be covered.
