MSc defense of Reagan Otieno Ochieng
On July 1, 2024, Reagan Otieno Ochieng successfully defended his MSc thesis, entitled “Analyzing charcoal value chains in the changing landscape of Turkana, North West Kenya”. The thesis employed a mixed-method approach integrating value chain analysis, sustainable rural livelihood assessment, and sustainability hotspot analysis to examine the intricate interconnections between charcoal production, distribution, marketing, and end-use within the context of evolving socio-economic and environmental factors. Fieldwork was conducted in Turkana. The research was funded by the Junior Tandem Scientist Program of the Council for Tropical and Subtropical Agricultural Research (ATSAF), in collaboration with the Alliance of Bioversity International and the Center for Tropical Agricultural Research (CIAT).
