Incentive structures for minimizing exploitation of groundwater for irrigation: Impact assessment of solarizing irrigation pumps in India

Project Brief:

In India, solar irrigation is promoted as a way of greening the energy profile despite the growing concern over overexploiation of groundwater. However, the adoption of solar irrigation pumps has not picked up pace and the impact of the adoption of solar irrigation pumps on water resource use and farmer income is not clear. In this context, the study assesses the adoption of solar irrigation pumps from a system perspective by mapping stakeholders, their intents motives and then analyses the impact of adoption on various outcome indicators.
