Wolfgang Bokelmann has many years of experience in academic research, consulting and teaching. There he represented the subjects 'Agricultural Management', 'Agricultural Marketing' and 'Environmental Management'. He was a member of the Scientific Advisory Boards for 'Agricultural and Food Policy' and 'National Action Plan for Plant Protection'.

Wolfgang Bokelmann was coordinator of the collaborative research project HORTINLEA: DIVERSIFYING FOOD SYSTEMS: Horticultural Innovations and Learning for Improved Nutrition and Livelihood in East Africa (BMBF-Förderprogramm GLOBE) and of EU/Edulink-Project VALUESEC (Value Chain Development for Food Security in the Context of Climate Change).
