Degree Information

Structure of the Program

The degree Master of Science is conferred upon students successfully complete 120 ECTS according to the following schema:

  1. Four compulsory modules (24 ECTS)
  2. Nine elective modules from the INRM program (54 ECTS): six modules covering two Priority Areas and three freely selected modules
  3. Two elective modules from other Master programs (a.k.a. “Überfachlicher Wahlpflichtbereich / ÜWP”) at HU or other universities in Berlin (12 ECTS)
  4. Master Thesis (30 ECTS)

 

Full-time students (30 ECTS/semester) can expect to complete their studies after 4 semesters. Part-time study is possible.
The four compulsory modules are:

  1. Agroecosystems, Environment and Sustainable Natural Resource Use
  2. Environmental and Resource Economics
  3. Soil and Water Protection
  4. Institutional Economics and Political Economy

 

Outside of the compulsory modules, students have flexibility in designing their schedules. Some structure and concentration are given through six Priority Areas, of which students must choose two. The Priority Areas are:

  1. Methodology and Modeling of Sustainability
  2. Sustainable Production Processes
  3. Sustainability Institutions and Policies
  4. Land and Water
  5. Biodiversity and Nature Conservation
  6. Climate Change and Renewable Energy
