Integrated Tools to Design and Implement Agri-Environmental Schemes

Start: 02/2004
End: 12/2006

The aim of the project is the development of optimal Agri-environmental schemes (AES) in consideration of expected environmental impacts, transaction costs and institutional arrangements. The conditions for implementing AES in Europe are very diverse and as result their environmental effectiveness if often subject to criticism. By comparing several case-studies the project will examine how institutional and contractual arrangements influence farmers’ uptake of AES. Further the project will model and analyse how farmers react to different types of schemes. Alternative AES will be simulated and set in a common policy framework.
