New Paper of Ayobami Adetoyinbo and Dagmar Mithöfer: The contingent interplay between resources, entrepreneurship and agribusiness performance among small-scale agri-food actors
The paper examines the influence of entrepreneurial orientation (EO) on the resource-based performance of small-scale farmers and traders operating in dynamic agri-food markets. It finds that financial, physical, and social capital are key drivers of EO (encompassing innovativeness, proactiveness, and risk-taking behaviors), which in turn enhance the performance of farmers and traders depending on the prevailing market conditions. The study introduces a new conceptual framework and rare multi-tier insights that could deepen our understanding of how rural entrepreneurial behavior emerges and can be leveraged to improve agribusiness performance in challenging market environments.
