Ecuadorian Banana Value Chain

Project: Ecuadorian banana value chain: historical dynamics, evolution and collective narratives

Project Description:

Although the banana value chain is ‘transnationalised’ and ‘global’, production remains largely localized in reality. Current challenges constitute an opportunity to understand global value chain links and reconsider the importance of fair value chains in a globalized and changing world. A combination of social science methods will allow to theorize – develop grounded knowledge on context and process under which changes in the banana value chain take place, taking into account time scales and linkages; and to identify relevant narratives and concepts, including imagined futures. This knowledge will allow us to create narrative scenarios for sustainable global value chains.
