MEGACITY

Hyderabad als eine Megastadt von Morgen: Nachhaltige urbane Nahrungs- und Gesundheitssicherung sowie Umweltressourcenmanagement

Gegenstand der Forschung ist die südindische Stadt Hyderabad, die 2001 ca. 5,5 Mio. Einwohner hatte, deren Zahl um ca. 27% pro Dekade wächst und voraussichtlich 2015 10,5 Mio. erreichen wird. Spezifische Gründe sprechen für die Wahl dieses Beispiels: gute Beobachtbarkeit der zur Megastadt führenden Prozesse, ein extremer Dualismus zwischen vom Wirtschaftswachstum profitierenden Gruppen und anderen mit mangelnder Erfüllung ihrer Grundbedürfnisse, die Stellung von Hyderabad als Stadt der Wissensproduktion, deren Nutzbarmachung eine strategische Zielsetzung des Projekts darstellt, und ihre Lage in einer semi-ariden agrarischen Region mit entsprechenden Migrationseffekten. Das Projekt konzentriert sich auf vier Problemfelder: Umweltschädigung und Ressourcendegradierung, Armut und Ernährung, die Anwendung vor Ort generierten Wissens sowie institutionelle Innovationen und verbesserte Governance-Strukturen. Diese werden mit prozessorientierten Projektkomponenten kombiniert, z.B. Kommunikations- und Kooperationsstrategien mit Betonung der Gender-Dimension. Verwendet werden aufeinander abgestimmte Methoden, z.B. das "Institutions of Sustainability"-Framework, der "Livelihood System Approach", das "Nutrition and Health Analysis"-Konzept, Ansätze des "Knowledge Managements", der "Genossenschaftswissenschaften", "Gender-Analyse" und "Urban Governance". Als Ergebnisse werden die Implementation eines Aktionsplanes zur Ernährungs- und Umweltproblematik sowie von institutionellen Innovationen und Governance-Reformen erwartet.
