International Environmental Agreements: Strategic interactions and possibilities for cooperation in climate change negotiations
To tackle the negative effects of climate change through mitigation and adaptation, inter- and transnational cooperation is necessary. External effects and the absence of clear property rights make it difficult to reach effective solutions. Our working group investigates international environmental agreements in a game theoretical framework. We analyze strategic interactions in climate change negotiations and explore possible pathways for polycentric cooperation to respond to the challenges of climate change. We particularly investigate the effects of asymmetric countries, nonconvex damages and climate clubs.
