Research Interests


  • Sandy's doctoral research looks at governance of climate sensitive natural resources in southern Africa with an emphasis on the multi-level policy processes which influence climate adaptation and natural resource management at the local level. These issues are addressed from an institutional economics perspective.
  • As a member of the FAVAIA (Formal Approaches to Vulnerability Assessment which Informs Adaptation), he is interested in relations between and role of concepts such as vulnerability, resilience, adaptive capacity and other related concepts.
